Georgia Blueberry Lemonade

Written by Denise Sawyer on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

I like to surprise my guests with something special to drink so I'm always thinking up different variations of lemonade or sweet tea.   We love to add fresh mint to sweet tea and add a couple tablespoons of maraschino cherry juice and four or five cherries to fresh squeezed lemonade makes it down right to die for.

Recently, I played around with creating a different flavored lemonade - blueberry lemonade.  It turned out delicious and refreshing!

It actually tastes lighter than it looks.  It is zippy, thanks to the lemons, with just enough blueberry flavor.  This would make a great signature drink for your Fourth of July bash!!  Serve it up with more frozen whole blueberries and some cute blue or red striped straws to really knock your guests out!

Here's how to mix up a batch:
(makes 2 quarts)

1 cup Georgia Blueberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
6 cups water (or enough to make a full two quarts)

Blend the sugar and Georgia blueberries together in a blender.  Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer or sieve.  Add the lemon juice and 1 cup of hot water. (The hot water will ensure the sugar melts).  Then add the rest of the water to fill the pitcher to 2 quarts.

Serve over ice and enjoy!

This looks absolutely delicious. I love blueberries, but I never would've thought to add them to lemonade. But I love the idea of those combined flavors. How did you decide to blend the sugar and strawberries together?

Great recipe. I have fresh blueberries growing next to my garden and have been enjoying them in my cereal every morning. I will try your drink this weekend. I am looking forward to giving it a taste.

Sounds wonderful. I mix Fresca with different juices and particularly well with limes and white grape juice.
