Georgia Blueberry Green Tea

The first step to blueberry green tea is making blueberry juice.  It is really simple.  Put washed Georgia blueberries in a heavy pot with enough water for them to float.  Bring them to a boil.  Then, mash the berries with a potato masher, bring them back to a boil, and then remove from heat.  Once the berries have cooled, strain them through a mesh strainer to remove the solids.

At this point you can sweeten the juice with a little honey or simple syrup and drink it as is or thin it with a little more water for a thinner juice type drink.  Store the blueberry juice in the fridge for several days or freeze it for later in smaller batches.

Blueberry juice (like blueberries) is high in free radical fighting antioxidants.  Pair it with green tea, also high in cancer-fighting antioxidants, to make one of my favorites, Georgia Blueberry Green Tea.  Georgia Blueberry Green Tea is a healthy, delicious way to end my evenings after the kids have gone to bed.

Want to make your own?

First, pour boiling water from the teakettle over a green tea bag and allow it a few minutes to steep.  Then, I add in 1 to 2 tablespoons of the blueberry juice and a tsp or two of sugar or honey (to taste).   The blueberry juice will eventually settle in the cup so if you don’t guzzle it down (it will be hard not too!) you’ll need to give it a stir to keep the mixture suspended.

A good cup of tea is a great way to relax and unwind from the day’s stresses.  For a busy mom, like me, it is a must to take a few moments all to myself to just sit back and enjoy a few quiet moments to decompress before trying to tackle yet another task!
